Over 90% of the dentist in the USA today must send your crowns or onlays to a dental laboratory for your crown/onlay to be completed. That is 2 appointments separated by 2-3 weeks. This means you have to be careful with a temporary in between the appointments. We have had Cerec technology in our office for over 5 years now. This new technology allows for your crown/onlay in one appointment. It takes a total of 2-3 hours and you walk out with your finished product since you had no temporary, you will not have sensitivity in between appointments. and no lost time for the patient’s second appointment. Less than 10% of all dentists have Cerec technology available. Not only does the Cerec save time for the patient, but the crown is also perfect every time. We have noticed less breakage and fewer bite problems since we have used the Cerec. The crown/Onlays are all-porcelain instead of the old porcelain fused to metal crowns that could have that dark line you have seen. Also, we bond these crowns ( it is “like” superglue but safe for the oral cavity). The old way is to use cement but it will dissolve in time and allow for leakage and new decay formation. Bonding is superior since it is not soluble in saliva and therefore will never leak like cemented restorations tend to do in time. For more information on this technology contact us today.
